Absolute Value.

No I am not talking about the V shaped graph.

I am talking about things we absolutely value in life.

If you do not know what that is, I was told to take a look at a current goal, or a past New Year's resolution.......it is your value that causes you to make that goal.

Look through this list...........what is your highest value at the moment?   (we all know it can change, month to month, even day to day)  But today is it.........

  • Love                      (passion, playfulness, connection, self-love, compassion, unity)
  • Success                (achievement, pride, self-worth, contribution)
  • Freedom               (self-expression, independence, openness, autonomy)
  • Connection          (intimacy, belonging, honesty)
  • Security                (trust, loyalty, confidence)
  • Variety                  (flexibility, adventure, courage, excitement, adaptability)
  • Empowerment     (confidence, self-esteem, fulfillment, self-worth)
  • Passion                (excitement, fulfillment, aliveness)
  • Trust                     (faith, comfort, ease, certainty
  • Compassion        (kindness, empathy, generosity)
  • Well-Being           (health, vitality, energy)
  • Peace                   (presence, contentment, balance, equanimity)
  • Significance        (contribution, charity, influence, gratitude, recognition)
  • Balance               (flexibility, wholeness, harmony)
  • Growth                (wisdom, progress, expansion)
  • Joy                      (delight, humor, wonder, happiness)
  • Creativity           (inspiration, curiosity, power, innovation)
  • Resilience          (perseverance, hope, strength)
  • Responsibility   (contribution, choice, empowerment, providing)
  • Integrity             (authenticity, alignment, truth, wholeness)
Current Highest Value? Seeing as though I am still trying to do my best with the DMD (diet mountain dew) consumption, I am saying well being for me.

Planning ahead.

I know it can be fun to be spontaneous, especially with things like plans with friends.  However, studying for a summative should be one of those things we actually plan for.

There is a summative this Friday on unit 2!

Review for that should not start Thursday night.  It has to start sooner, so that there is time to clear up any topics that are not yet solid.

Music, it can help the focus and motivation.

However, if you find yourself doing drum beats and breaking into your best dance moves, maybe best to work without.

Are you a with or without music kind of studier?

Topics that need review before summative?

Correlation.

Things can have positive correlation.

  • My daughter's age and her weight.
  • My daughter's age and her height.
  • The number of miles I run and calories burned.
  • The number of miles run and sweets consumed.

Things can have negative correlation.

  • The more diet soda I consume the less water I drink.
  • The more diet soda I consume the less coffee I drink.
  • The more I consume the less tired I feel.
  • The more I consume the less I am meeting my goal of quitting this stupid thing.

Some things have no correlation.

  • Number of siblings and favorite number.  (I have one and my favorite is 13, I know you were wondering)

Give a situation from your life with positive, negative, or no correlation.

Attention to detail

When graphing with a restricted domain, pay attention to the little things.

  • Is there an endpoint? endpoints? ......if so, open or closed circles?
  • Is the graph dots or continuous?
  • Is zero even, odd or neither?
  • Is zero positive, negative, or neither?

Here is some attention to detail I was not anticipating.....

Did you see the ants on the sandwich on last night's worksheet?

Are there any things you would add to the bulleted list up above?

Did you notice the ant sandwich?

Favorite Sandwich?  Turkey......however, I am on a grilled cheese, tomato, avocado kick.

First Monday of 2015-2016

Ok, so that class period went by fast.  It is amazing what those extra 15 minutes do.  Don't forget you need to finish the the Domain and Range worksheet for Block 1.

See you in the morning, I have to tune into Dancing with the stars.

Can you give me a function where the domain is all real numbers and the range is y - 8?

Anyone else watch Dancing with the Stars?  Favorite pro?  Derek.

Sometimes you just have to.....

do some independent practice before the summative.  Working in groups is great!  Asking your teacher for help is also great! However, when you want to know what you do (or do not) know before the summative, there is nothing better than some one on one time with the review.

I always say, there never should be any surprises with a summative.  Be honest with yourself about how the review went.  If it did not go as well as you would like, it cannot magically happen on the assessment.  Come in Friday morning, so we can clear anything up.

Happy Thursday evening, and happy reviewing.

Any topics I should use as review before the summative?

A video, a worksheet

What better to do on this rainy day right? Absolute Value Inequalities are the best!
Come to class for your second block this week having:

  • watched the video
  • completed the worksheet

We are having another assessment this Friday to check up on all this review work.
Be prepared!

Best rainy day activities?  Watching a mindless romantic comedy.
