This problem got us.

The South American Mouse stumped a lot of us.

The mouse's jump was NOT 6 ft.
Can you figure out what it is supposed to be?  First person from your hour to write what it should be and why in the comments gets bragging rights!

And just because.  This is me in South America. Yes that is a Llama.

Finding vertex from standard form.

Try the problem below.

Share your answer with a table mate when you derive one.

The only picture I have on my phone of soccer.  We went to a game at Miller park.  I have no idea who was even playing now.  Obviously it had a lasting impact.  I do remember it being fun though.

In the comments, any soccer players out there........who are you??
Or been to a soccer game, tell me about it.

Can you ever have enough word problem practice?

It takes 3 hours for a boat to travel 27 miles upstream.  The same boat can travel 30 miles downstream in 2 hours.  Find the speeds of the boat and the current.

Work out the problem, and while you are waiting for all to finish tell me about any boats you have been in the comments.
I have been on:
  • canoes.  Every year of my life 5 - 21
  • kayak
  • speed boats
  • pontoon
  • But never a cruise.  Trying to decide if I would like or not like.  Anyone been on one?  Reviews??

What do you "absolutely value?"

In no particular order, just how they came to mind.  Lets consider them my top 5.

Summer vacation 2016
1.  My family.

2.  Travel.  (Some of my best experiences.....ever.)

3.  Being in Nature.......kind of goes hand in hand with 2.

4.  My own time

5.  Health/Happiness.

(Dark chocolate is healthy for you, right?)

Correlation

Data is often collected and analyzed to see if there is a correlation between the results.  Be aware though, the sample size of many collections is often too small to really make a correlation conclusion.

That being said there are things that we can say do have positive correlation (one positive the other positive, or one negative the other negative)

  • Babies age and height.
  • Number of minutes working out and calories burned.
  • Amount of Advil taken and amount of Ibprofen in your system.
  • Number of hours worked and amount of paycheck.
  • Number of days into the school year and my caffeine consumption.  (Diet mountain dew, you are my weakness!)

There are things that have negative correlation. (one positive one negative, or vice versa)

  • As one increases in age, their flexibility decreases.
  • As the temperature decreases, the heating bills increase.
  • Number of student absences increase, grades decrease.
  • The faster I run, the time it takes to the finish line decreases.

Name something in your life that either has positive or negative correlation?

How will things with positive correlation graph?  Negative?

You are done with the review.......now what?

Try your hand at these.
You will be ready for any summative challenge that comes your way.

Happy Mathing.

Leave me an answer to one (or all) of them in the comments.

Guest post

Hi everyone! My name is Alexis Fredericks and I am a senior In AP English 12 this year. We have a senior project where we have to do a proof of mastery and for mine I am holding an event on May 23rd from 4-5:30pm at South in regards to animal abuse. It will be a super interesting night where we all come together and see what we can do to help abused animals. There will be food and a guest speaker. If you have any questions please feel free to email me at afrederi000@stu.waukesha.k12.wi.us. I hope you can make it!

Thank you again for helping,

Improving standards

Whenever a grading period comes to a close I get the question what can I do to improve my grade?
Here is a really good opportunity.

1. Find the standard you would like to make up. Schedule below:

2. Sign in at the make-up session. All of the Algebra 2 teachers will be hosting different sessions.
3. Once the session is attended, students can make up the test on their own time (ie, study hall, before, after school, or lunch).
4. Grades will averaged with the prior assessment score

Please let me know if you have questions, be aware the first standard starts this Thursday morning!

Do you have any additional questions about this?

Talk summer to me

Six more weeks of school!!!!!! Soon we will all be able to relax. We are ready for the warm, sunny weather every day and all the free time in the world. Going to the beach, eating ice cream and playing basketball are some of our favorite things to do during summer.

We are looking forward to going on a road trip to Canada together this summer.

What are some plans you have for the summer?

Who is excited?

Ok, we are mere hours away from starting Spring Break.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I can hardly wait.

We do the whole Easter hunt, Easter basket thing.
Here is my preparation of being the Easter bunny for Hope.

My parents put $$ in Easter eggs for the adults.  I instantly become super speedy and competitive.

I vow to spend the above mentioned moola on morning coffees and doughnuts for the week.

Easter traditions?
Favorite Easter Candy? Good old fashion jelly beans.

Could not have said it better myself.

This is a hard time of year.  It is cold, there is lack of sunlight, it just is blah.  Hard to be motivated to do things we like sometimes, much less things we do not. .........(like math problems)

But, we cannot forget that the work done now will effect our future, and all too often in April I have students wondering, "how do I get my grade up?"  The answer is DO NOT LET IT SLIDE NOW.
As tempting as it is, stick with it, and know your vices.

Check out this student's answer to #4.  Nailed it!

What are your vices? Diet Mountain Dew is tried and true, but this past week it has also been peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies.  Not together, but that doesn't sound horrible.

Now I have to ask, Weird but delicious food combinations?  Jelly toast with a slice of cheese.  (Don't knock till you try it)

Let's talk exam.

First of all, reminder, you need to pass your targets in order to pass the class reguardless of how infinite campus has averaged your grade.

Your exam will be a final chance to get any of those to passing, if need be, or to have that target re-tested.

This sheet will be handed out to you next week.

I advise that you look at your standards (other than the highlighted ones, everyone is testing on those) and decide if you need that standard assessed again.

It is not advisable to pick ones where you are happy with your grade, because then the exam could actually bring it down if for some reason things don't go well.

So, go to infinite campus now, look at where you are at, and make some notes about targets you would consider.   That way when you hand it in next week, you do not feel pressure to make a snap decision.

Let me know if I can help.

As always, leave a comment if you wish to ask a question that way.

The triangle

So a lot of you remembered Pascal's triangle and the binomial theorem as a pre-break topic, do you also remember how to use it?

A visual to refresh.

Your notability has the note Binomial Theorem Notes filled out and ready to help you with today's assignment.

Today's assignment:  bb9,  Back in swing Day 2.  Go get started.

Leave any questions you might have in the comments.  (Pascal's triangle or other topics)

Back to the Grind.

Here we are, whether we want to be or not.
No use fighting it, so let's embrace the work to be done.

First up, restoring our knowledge of unit 5, polynomials.

Post one topic that was done in unit 5, pre break.
However the rule is that no one in your pod can post the same topic.  Decide who is posting what before submitting your comment.
Use your bb9 to help remind you if needed.........I won't tell.
